Love
For this image I chose to use a birds eye view to connote the feeling of love. Love is often linked to the 'heaven' so I used this angle to connote the idea that you are looking down on the couple from heaven, their love is heavenly. I used a small aperture to let in more light so the picture was bright. The lighter image connotes happy positive feelings and the sun light makes the image look warm. I image love as warm and joyous.
Poverty
I chose a high angle for this image and used a large aperture to let in very little light. The dark background begins to blend into the characters dark clothes which connotes the idea of him fading into the background. He is lost, poor and desperate. The high angle makes the character look small and weak. I chose a dirty, bland background along with an earthy tone to make the whole image look poor. The dark image creates negative emotions and the dark colours help to connote the idea of poverty.
Loneliness
The look on the characters face creates a very low, negative emotion that is emphasized by the vast empty space beside him on the bench. The little amount of light in the image created by the large aperture and a low ISO connotes the feeling of loneliness because it is dull, dreary and the colour grey is usually connoted to sadness and negativity. I chose to use a medium shot and a straight on angle so we could fully empathise with the character.
Purity
For this image I chose to use a very small aperture to let in a lot of natural light. The colour white and the word natural are often connoted to purity. The use of bright light created a white wash over the character which reflected off of the skin to create a glow to connote purity. I mainly wanted to focus on the use of light for this image so I used a standard medium shot and an eye level angle. I also chose to use a plain background. This meant that the light was the main focus.
Fear
For this image I used a large aperture and a low ISO to create a dark background. I wanted to let as little light through as I could to connote negative emotions. I used a low shutter speed to blur my character as he 'desperately' ran away to connote fear. I used a wide shot to belittle the character and make him seem weak and a canted angle to make it feel unsteady. If someone is in fear I imagine them to feel small, helpless and unsteady.
Strength
For this image I used a low angle to make the character seem bigger. The character is confident with connotes the idea of 'Strength'. I attempted to use the sun as a back light to define the character and the small aperture allowed a lot of light to brighten up the image and create positive emotions that connote to strength. The word strength to me connotes power and confidence.
