In our video we have used many different movie techniques including opening with a wipe and ending with a fade to signify the beginning and ends of our clip. We used ambient lighting throughout the whole of the film to set the scene of the natural college halls. In this scene we used a worms eye view to create an angle that made the character look stronger. It also allowed us to see from where the envelope is like a POV shot and gave us a clear shot as he picks it up. From the first video we have moved from one side to the other side of the character but have stayed within the 180 rule that is used when filming. We decided to use a medium shot so we were close enough to see the envelope. If we didn't see the envelope the plot of the short film would be unclear. by doing this we set the scene clearly. This is also a match on action shot as we see the character move towards the envelope and then pick it up. We then cut to the next image that uses an over the shoulder shot so we can clearly see what is written on the envelope. This is
followed up by a close up of the shocked expression on the characters face. After this we switch to the other side of the 180 degree rule and see the character looking at the package as the next character comes in and snatches it beginning all of the action yet to come. As we go forth into the film we see the character stop and look down another corridor that he believes to be a short cut. We used an eye-line match as well as a POV shot to allow the viewer to see what the character is seeing and to understand what is going to happen next. Further into the video we use a birds eye view/ a high angle
and a close up shot to see a third character picking up the envelope on the floor. We did this so the video flowed and had better continuity. If we didn't use this match on action we wouldn't know that the third character had the envelope she would just drop her papers and move on. The viewers wouldn't understand what was happening next because it all leads onto when our original character comes out of his short cut and sees her with the envelope. We then proceed to two close ups of the characters faces, this gives us an idea of how the charterer is feeling because we can clearly see their faces. Also the shots are the same, as in both characters are in the center of the scene and have the same positioning. This helps the viewer focus because the scenes are too quick to be searching around the screen and understanding whats going on. These two shots were our attempts at a shot reverse shot but we used medium shots instead of over the shoulder shots. I think this scene could have been better understood if we used two over the shoulder shots because it would show our use of the 180 rule better because at some points it is unclear. Towards the end of the video we see the original character run away with the envelope. He runs from the left side of the screen in one scene and as we cut to another we also see him run from the left, we did this for continuity. He opens the envelope and we see an extreme close up of his eye. At this point we were going to add in a tear as he realized that the money was a trick but we were focusing on the effects so left this part out. After he empties the envelope we cut to a close up of the shredded paper on the floor and we exit in a fade to signal the end of the short film. Overall I think the concept of the film is successful. Some of the editing made the video jumpy so the continuity and the flow was lost but for the most part it was quick and the cuts were well put in. We didn't over do the wipes and fades and only used them when necessary such as the end and the beginning but we also added one in after the characters go their separate ways to signal a change in time and surroundings. The biggest thing that i have learnt is that filming and editing is a lot harder than it sounds. their are so many aspects to think about that a lot of thought has to go in to make a film flow. I enjoyed editing the most. I loved playing with the effects and seeing the individual shots all coming together one after the other.
